What is Trinity Western University?
Trinity Western University is a 157-acre campus located outside Langley, BC, Canada. Located 45 minutes from downtown Vancouver, it is an hour from the North Shore mountains and 30 minutes from the American border. What is the relationship between RZIM and Trinity Western University?
While Trinity Western is hosting RZIM Summer School 2016, there is no official affiliation with Trinity Western University. Please direct queries to Jane Twohey at RZIM, and not Trinity Western University.
Is there an age limitation to attend Summer School?
Summer School registrants must be at least 17 years old, or have finished high school to attend.
When is registration on day of arrival?
Registration is between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday July 10, 2016.
Is WiFi available on campus?
Wi-Fi is complimentary and you will receive a Wi-Fi code and instructions upon arrival.
Does my registration include meals?
Lunch, dinner and refreshments are included in your registration. Breakfast is only included if you are staying on campus.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
Please submit any dietary restrictions by May 15, 2016. We will do our best to accommodate you.
How will meals be served?
Most meals will be buffet style. An identification ticket/tag will be issued for meals.
Is it okay to opt out of meals or eat offsite?
You can make your own arrangements for meals however there is no financial reimbursement for skipped meals.
Can I bring my children?
Childcare will not be provided. Session attendance is limited to individuals 17 and over.
Is financial aid available for Summer School?
A limited number of full and partial bursaries are available for students residing in Canada. To apply, download an application at www.rzimsummerschool.ca and email to Jane Twohey prior to February 1, 2016.
When is the balance of my payment due?
Final payment is due on or before May 15, 2016.
Can I transfer my registration if, due to extenuating circumstances am not able to attend?
Submit transfer requests in writing to Jane Twohey.
If I cancel my registration, do I receive a refund?
You may cancel your reservation within 7 working days after the date we receive your booking. A refund will be issued less a $50 administrative fee. If you cancel your booking AFTER the 7 working days and prior to May 15, 2016 you will receive a refund for fees paid less the $250 deposit.
Summer School is primarily a residential week; however those who wish to stay offsite may make alternative arrangements. See hotel information at: http://twu.ca/campus/directions/hotel.html
Onsite Trinity Campus Accommodations
Trinity Western accommodations are on-campus student dormitory residences. The accommodations consist of single beds and there are no queen or double beds. Couples and families who wish to share a room should consider staying at a local hotel.
How do I add/remove accommodations to/from my registration?
Please call or email the RZIM office as soon as possible to update your registration.
What is provided in my room?
You will receive a ready-made bed with a pillow, sheets and a blanket, along with a cup, soap, and all necessary towels. There will be no housekeeping for the week.
Are the rooms easily accessible?
Rooms are accessible by elevator and some rooms by stairs. For those with mobility limitations, please contact Jane Twohey to make arrangements.
Is there room service at Trinity Western?
There is no room service available. There is a cafeteria with limited hours available on campus, and various shops, cafés and restaurants within driving or transit proximity.
Will there be access to a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker?
Each floor has a shared fridge, microwave and coffee maker/kettle. All meals will be provided for those staying on campus but you may wish to bring snacks and drinks.
Is there an exercise room?
There is a fully-equipped gym available on campus as well as 40 acres of trails suitable for running or walking.
Are there on-site laundry facilities?
Washing machines and dryers are available. You will need to bring your own detergent.
When can I check-in to accommodations?
Check-in will take place during summer school registration from 1 – 4 p.m. on Sunday July 10, 2016. You will receive your registration package as well as your accommodation key at the Summer School registration desk.
When is check out time?
You will need to check out of your room by noon on Friday July 15, 2016.
Can I stay in residence housing for additional nights?
Staying additional nights is currently not an option.
What if I want to stay in a hotel?
If you prefer to stay at a hotel instead of on-site at Trinity Western, a limited block of rooms has been booked at the Sandman Hotel Langley. Please reserve early as the hotel fills up quickly during the summer months. With easy access to Highway 1, this hotel is a popular destination for visitors from all surrounding areas including Vancouver and Surrey. Will I be given session notes?
You will receive a registration package upon arrival including a course manual with lecture notes. You may wish to bring a notebook for additional note taking.
Can I use my tablet/computer/phone to take notes in the lectures?
We welcome technology in the classroom as long as it is not distracting to attendees. We cannot guarantee access to electrical outlets during lectures. Please keep all electronic devices on “silent mode” during all lectures.
May I audio/video record the lectures for my own review after class?
RZIM will be recording all talks and distributing them to you by email after Summer School. We request that you DO NOT make other audio or video recordings.
Will there be RZIM resources for sale at Summer School?
RZIM and other resources will be available for purchase throughout the week.
Are there academic requirements to attend the RZIM Summer School?
There are no academic requirements to attend Summer School.
Is there any course preparation for the Summer School?
There is no course preparation needed.
Is there a recommended reading list?
Many of the speakers are published authors whose books will be for sale. A recommended reading list will be provided.
Can I gain undergraduate/graduate credit for an academic course by attending Summer School?
There are no academic credits available for Summer School at this time.
Will there be any free time?
There are multiple breaks throughout the day that include an extended lunch and dinner. However, we encourage participants to take time for themselves as needed. See schedule here.
Will there be an opportunity to talk to a speaker about a particular apologetics question?
In addition to Q&A’s throughout the program, there will be formal and informal opportunities to interact with speakers throughout the week.
Is there an additional fee for the Ravi Zacharias keynote and can I invite friends and family?
Your registration fee includes Dr. Zacharias’ Wednesday evening keynote address. In addition public tickets will be available for purchase by March 1, 2016.
Do I need a passport to get into Canada?
Citizens of other countries require a valid passport and/or visa to get into Canada. Visit: Canadian Border Service Agencies for more information. Registrants are responsible for their own visas. Please note: RZIM Canada cannot extend formal invitations for students to come to Canada to study.
